The top gift request to Santa from children around the world is video games while the second choice is low-tech Legos, the Swedish postal service says.
The postal service sampled 1,000 of the 100,000 or so letters Father Christmas can expect to get this year at his Swedish office in Tomteboda, The Local reports. Tomteboda, an area in northern Stockholm, gets its name from the tomte, a sort of Swedish house elf who brings presents at Christmas.
Within the video game group, the most popular brand is Nintendo with PlayStation and Xbox trailing. Boys and girls go for video games in about equal numbers.
There is a gender divide in the second and third choices, the postal service says. Five times as many boys ask for Legos while four times as many girls request pets, usually a puppy or rabbit.
Pokemon is in fourth place, followed by Star Wars items, Littlest Pet Shop toys, cellphones, battery-operated vehicles with remote control, toy cars and racetracks and, in 10th place, a big-ticket item, computers.
Some of the letters, from pre-literate children, have drawings of their toy choices.
The 1,000 letters also included some unusual requests. One child wants to meet the tooth fairy and another wants Thumbelina -- from a Hans Christian Andersen story about a very small girl -- but she has to speak Russian and like pancakes.
